dark red natural spring water, beautiful antique decor, historical ambience
The bus service to the city is very limited with just one ride each way!!! The heating in the room was uncomfortably high. neither of us could manage a good night's sleep!!! The dinner service felt rushed, lacking the relaxed atmosphere we hoped for!!!

Staying at Motoyu Ishiya felt like stepping into a genuine slice of history. The atmosphere is peaceful, with walls that whisper tales from a time long past. My room, a Japanese-Style Deluxe Twin Room with Private Bathroom, offered a stunning view of the meticulously maintained garden. Each meal, especially dinner, felt like a culinary journey with beautifully presented traditional dishes. The onsen's dark, mineral-rich water was soothing, though I found it slightly inconvenient that there was no drinking water available in the onsen area. It would be safer for guests to have easy access to water, especially after soaking in those hot springs. The staff were incredibly attentive, always anticipating needs before I even thought of them. However, the layout of the ryokan could be confusing during the initial visit, with a lack of English signage making navigation tricky. A few signs directing guests would enhance the experience. Still, Motoyu Ishiya is a treasure, and the charm of the old building absolutely won me over.

9/10
That onsen water’s a deep reddish brown, I tell ya, just like they say it’s full of iron. Our meals were real fancy, a true journey of flavors. Staff were sweet as peach pie, even gifted us chopsticks! Only thing was, I sure wished there was easy access to drinking water in the onsen area.

Here’s why it’s a mixed review
The historical charm of the building is breathtaking! ! It truly feels like walking through a museum with its antique decor and lovely gardens. Dining was a delightful journey with flavorful and beautifully presented traditional meals.
The schedule for buses can be tricky, with limited service to Kanazawa. This made exploring the area somewhat challenging and inconvenient for our plans.
